Looking at the entire career of director Shôhei Imamura, there is one pearl among it - La ballade de Narayama. Shôhei Imamura has several directorial successes. I was afraid that knowledge of the plot would in some way take away the joy of watching, but it did not happen. From all the movies I watched last time, La ballade de Narayama surprised me the most. Acting is very real - I believed what I see on the screen. La ballade de Narayama gives the viewer unusual emotions. They are unpleasant, they drill a hole in the stomach and in the mind.
