Created in Gate of Hell, Gate of Hell became an unexpected hit. The actors are also really convincing in their roles. The world of the film reminds us very much and we can identify with each other. The movie starts in a very unusual way. Seemingly trivial matters turn out to be of great importance and the atmosphere. Gate of Hell gives to the watcher an unusual emotions and this is the beauty of this movie.
Gate of Hell description:
In 1160, during the Heian period, Lord Kiyomori and his court got into another quarrel, and his Sanjo castle was occupied by two other gentlemen in a coup d'état. Faithful samurai Moritoh Enda asks Court Lady Kesa to pose for the Lord's sisters to undermine while the Lord's true sister and father flee among the people. Then Moritoh sets out to meet Lord Kiyomon and fights to defeat his enemies and the coup fails. Lord Kiyomon rewards the warriors who helped him, and when he asks Moritoh what he wants, he asks for Kesa's hand. The Lord fulfills his wish, but soon finds out that Kesa is married to Wataru Watanabe, a samurai of the Imperial Guard. Moritoh harasses and threatens Kesa by promising to kill her husband, aunt, and her if she doesn't marry him. Kesa's decision leads the trio to a tragic fate.... Show more
