rom Witchhammer you can definitely expect a cinema at an above average level. The ending is like a Hitchcock hit, the final turn of the action that amazes and depresses. I was afraid that knowledge of the plot would in some way take away the joy of watching, but it did not happen. Efficient balancing between different, preferably extreme, moods seems to me one of the greatest pieces in screenwriting. Recently, Witchhammer is again on the screens of our cinemas. It is the 17th century. The beggar Maryna Schuchová hides the host in a scarf for communion. He admits to the priest Schmidt that she intended to give her to the midwife Groerova to heal her sick cow. The young priest proclaims her to be a witch and persuades Countess Sumperk De Galle to call Inquisitor Boblig from Edelstadt. This failed law student sees the offer as an excellent opportunity. He uses torture and threats to force women to testify when they meet the devil and memorize the lies he invented for the Inquisition Court.
